Reasons For Choosing Female GYN And How To Look For One

By Melissa Stewart

Gynecology is the practice in medicine that deals with female reproductive health which involves breasts, ovaries, uterus and vagina. Gynecologists are also mostly obstetricians who specialize in taking care of pregnant women and after they have just given birth. They are called ob-gyn and were trained to do all these things, including delivering of babies.

They deal with many important health issues such as birth control, menopause and childbirth as well as performing surgery to urinary tract or pelvic organ problems, screening for cancer and treating for infections. Most patients get nervous and embarrassed in allowing doctors to look at their private parts which is the reason they prefer a female GYN Aurora. You could select one by finding them yourself.

Choosing one yourself having the gender you like is possible though other hospitals will not encourage a practice like this. They would provide you one without gender bias but based on their availability when they are needed. That is why searching for one having their own clinic in advance is important to be sure to have a female doctor.

Physicians of both genders have equal skills, capabilities and knowledge usually in their specialization while doing their work professionally. This means there will be no sexual intent or malice which is shown during treatment or check up even from the straight male doctor. Although others abuse this and their license would be removed immediately if caught.

Another reason patients are preferring women doctors would be religious beliefs specially those that strictly does not allow other men who are not their husband to look at the naked body of theirs. This is something to respect and consider when a physician is being assigned. But this is not important during emergency situations.

Teenage girls and young women which have not given birth yet also prefer women doctors because of their unfamiliarity with the opposite gender. This is specially true with teenage girls who are not confident enough with their body and are conscious of the changes that is happening to it. They will want someone that can relate to them and explain these things.

If you want an ob-gyn, start through finding one by requesting for several recommendations from your primary care provider, friends and family members. Doing so assures you of these specialists being trustworthy because they are recommended by them. And you have someone to ask when you want to know what they had experienced with them.

Research about them to know where they had taken their education and training for this specialty and how long since they started practicing. Read some testimonials from their other patients to get ideas on what to expect from them during your session. Check if there were any complaints against them or were charged with medical malpractice.

Set an appointment for you to meet them right before you finalize your decision about who you will choose and during these meetings, ask them questions. Inquire if they accept your health insurance and their stand with reproductive health issues like birth control. Then ask them on what hospital they possess admitting privileges if this becomes necessary.
